Hi Folks!

Firstly, big fat apologies. The Edsel been here for a while and I
haven't posted this until now. Also, I completely forgot to announce
22.1.8. Too late now to do that, so lets just move on...

Following is a list of things for 22.1.9 I have in my howm notes. In
square brackets at the end of each item is either a name or the word
"open". If it is "open" that means that I'm not aware of anyone who is
working on it and anyone can volunteer. If it is a name, it is because
I know that this person is working on the item, or it means that I think
this person would be the best one for the job.[1]

Please feel free to add to this list. Hey, Sebastian, see I put it at
the top this time instead of at the bottom where you don't see it. :-P
If anyone wants to discuss a particular item, please start a new thread
for it.

o Completing on empty string [open/Nelson]

Do `M-x <TAB>' then wait an eternity while a completion buffer
is built from every possible command. I think that is pretty
          stupid. Possible solutions:

                - Require 2 TAB's to complete on empty.

                - Display a...
"There are 38,576 possibilities, show (y/n):"
                  ...type of message.

                - Don't attempt to complete on empty, just insert a tab
                  character.

                - A combination of any or all of the above.

        o Etags improvements [me]

Just a few niceties like a mode for the "list-tags" buffer for
movement, jumping to tags etc. Optimise etags.el a bit to try
to speed it up a tad.

        o Console/TTY improvements [open/Nelson/Sebastian/me]

Nelson, 256 colour TTY, need I say more? :-)

Plus more food for thought[2]... I'd like SXEmacs to one day
have support for framebuffer/directfb on TTY. With that we
could do glyphs, toolbars, menubars, scrollbars, and other
          GUI-ness in a TTY/Console.

This will take a fairly huge amount of surgery, but how cool
          would it be?

        o UI for ffi-{taglib,wand,curl} [me]

These are excellent and very useful little tools, but they are
          somewhat lacking in user-level functions.

        o refcard.tex needs updating [Horst]

This reference card was last updated in 1995, a lot can change
in 13 years! Is it all still accurate? Is there stuff there
that became obsolete and died out with the dinosaurs? Is
there stuff that isn't in there that really deserves to be?

This file is in plain TeX, should/could it be migrated to
LaTeX? (Hint: Sebastian is a LaTeX guru).

Horst, this is by no means an easy task, but I'm sure that,
with a degree of effort, you'll be able to handle it. I'm not
going to put any time constraints on this so you can take the
time to do it properly. And I _will_ accept partial
"in-progress" merge requests. :-) The only thing I ask,
Horst, is that if you commit to doing this task, you don't
          neglect it.

o Formatted docs end up in wrong dir [Sebastian]

The info docs end up in $top_srcdir/info. What's wrong with
that? Nothing if you are building "in-tree". But if you are
building outside the source tree (or in a dedicated build
subdirectory thereof), those docs should be in $builddir/info.

        o Iconv [open/Sebastian/Aidan]

Instead of all this Mule/UCS/Unicode mumbo jumbo, I believe
that SXEmacs should use iconv internally for this stuff.

This one is OK to slide to some, as yet, unknown future
          version.

Aidan, putting your name on this task is probably wishful
thinking on my part. I know that you have time constraints
and commitments in other areas. But, in my eyes, you are
definitely the best man for the job. :-)

o Finish migrating cl-* to emods. [Sebastian]

A while back, Sebastian implemented some of the CL loop stuff
as an emodule. It gave some very exciting speed increases, so
I'm really looking forward to the rest of our CL hitting
          emodland. :-)

        o Boehm GC [Sebastian/Nelson]

I've heard rumours of SXEmacs WD's existing that have a
working (or nearly working) BDWGC. Is this true? How about
          we see some MR's. Don't forget it's OK to break things.[3] :-)

Footnotes:
[1] If you see your name and think "hell no, I can't/won't do that...",
that's cool, just speak up. We'll find some other way/person.
I'll forgive you... sooner or later. :-P

[2] Euphemism for: it'll be cool, but can slip for a version or two.

[3] As long as you fix em.
