There are two ways to get out of SXEmacs: you can kill the SXEmacs job, which exits permanently, or you can suspend it, which permits you to reenter the SXEmacs process later. As a practical matter, you seldom kill SXEmacs—only when you are about to log out. Suspending is much more common.
